Mishaps and garlic

So my career as a truck driver is not in the near future. I put the automatic truck in the ditch the day after I was deemed a good driver - I was backing up to turn around, and all of a sudden the back right wheel was up in the air. Evidently the folks who pulled it out with tractor got a good laugh. Wednesday I got the stick-shift truck stuck in some tall wet grass (fortunately Hana was right behind me in the tractor and she got it unstuck in no time), and I also took a hill a little too fast yesterday and dropped two bales of mulching hay off the back of the truck. Hana told me I was already driving like a boy and that first gear works much better for that stretch.

I've been planting garlic for the past week or so. I like planting garlic a)because it's fun and garlic smells great and b)because it is in the field away from Route 7, so I actually feel more like a rural farmer. Never plant garlic with your shoes on - there is too much fun with dirt to be had. Make holes in the dirt with a dibble stick, about a foot apart. The garlic seed is the garlic clove; push the clove into the hole, roots down, and smooth over with dirt. Cover thickly with hay for mulch.

Today as I was cleaning eggs I put in a reeeaally dirty one into the bucket of water, and it just floated. Funny, I thought, eggs don't float, this one must have cracked and it's empty. So I threw it in the trash and POP! It exploded and left the most awful stench ever. We had to move the trash can it was so bad. Think about that the next time you call someone a rotten egg - it is a really bad insult.

Favorite sandwich of the week: leftover baked eggplant with Italian seasoning (really just a good excuse to eat olive oil) grilled with cheese and greens.

Time to pick chard and cherry tomatoes!

Peace and lots of sweet potatoes -
